A Texican In Virginia
It's not easy being Mexican and living in southwest Virginia.
It seems most of the other Mexicans I meet either work in restaurants, or hang out at the flea market. (The ones at the flea market work for a construction company usually out of the city during their jobs.)
There are times when I feel like some sort of misfit working in an office environment. As if that's not enough, everyone seems to associate me with anything Mexican. It's like I was born an authority on Mexican food, Mexican culture, the language and lifestyle.
I guess it's a good thing. Back home, I'd have to find some other food to be an expert of.
